Description
1909 ARCTIC 1st/1st Discovery North Pole Frederick Cook Peary Polar Expedition

A rare, true first edition, first printing of the polar expedition account, ‘Discovery of the North Pole.’ Edited by J. Martin Miller, this historical narrative details a variety of polar expeditions at the turn of the 20th-century. Accompanied by a myriad of illustrations contents primarily include stories from the polar expeditions of Frederick A. Cook and Robert E. Peary, along with brief accounts regarding other explorers such as Adolphus Greely, Fridtjof Nansen, Sir Ernest Shackleton, and more!

Notably, this first edition account was published prior to the public rejection of Frederick Albert Cook’s claim by the University of Copenhagen in December, 1909 and ends on pg. 428. Later editions would include a four-page summary of the rejection of Cook’s claim at the end of the book, pg. 429-432.
