ASKart: Anton Rooskens (March 16, 1906 - Griendsveen February 28, 1976, Amsterdam) was one of the promoting members of the experimental group in the Netherlands and of the Cobra Group.From 1924 to 1934 he attended the Technische school, in the meantime he became interested in the visual arts and frequented Amsterdam to visit museums and exhibitions, at the Stedelijk Museum he discovered innovative artists such as the cubists Picasso and Braque, the Fauve Modigliani and the Belgian expressionists Frits van de Berghe and Constant Permeke.In 1946 he met Appel, Corneille and Brands at the Young Painters group exhibition at the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam. Anton Rooskens' painting draws heavily on primitive art, especially African art, as well as the intuitive surrealism of Joan Miró and André Masson. “We were all aware that we were cut off from the past; we had also achieved limitless freedom.Only the primitives, children and psychopaths had our sympathy.
