Cadastral map covering the area from San Francisco county line to San Bruno Station. Shows the "Proposed Line of Southern Pacific R.R." (then under water), San Bruno Road, San Mateo Canal, San Bruno Canal, etc. Oriented with north at the top. "Sale to commence Tuesday Sept. 26th, 1871 at Platt Hall, San Francisco." A few of the lots are outlined in colored pencil. OCLC locates three examples, one at the California Historical Society, and two the University of California Berkeley. Provenance: Charles A. Fracchia Collection.
Grafton Tyler Brown is known as the first African-American lithographer and professional artist in California. Brown immigrated to California in the 1850s from Harrisburg, Penn., when he was 20 years old, and was trained in lithography at the firm of Kuchel & Dresel in San Francisco. He bought their firm in 1867 and renamed it G. T. Brown, Lithographers.
