(4to) 26.7x20.8 cm (10½x8¼"), period speckled calf lettered and ornamented in gilt on spine, raised bands, filleted edges, top edges stained others speckled red. Third edition, revised and corrected.
Originally published in 1753, Hanway's is one of the earliest accounts of the Caspian region by a European. Notable as well for its then nearly current history "The Revolutions of Persia," including the invasion of the Afghans, with the "History of the celebrated usurper Nadir Kouli, from his Birth in 1687, 'til his Death in 1747..." This would be Nadir Shah, founder of the Afsharid dynasty of Persia and one of the most powerful rulers in Iranian history. Armorial bookplate.
