**First Time At Auction**

Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Jalisco, ca. 300 BCE to 300 CE. A hand-built and stone-burnished pottery figure seated upon thick legs and holding both arms under the pointed chin, perhaps in a mourning pose. The elongated head features impressed eyes, a petite mouth, a prominent nose, and ears adorned with rings. Size: 5.5" W x 7.625" H (14 cm x 19.4 cm)

Provenance: ex-Barakat Gallery, Beverly Hills, California, USA, acquired prior to 2000

Professional repair and restoration, with resurfacing and overpainting along new material and break lines. Minor nicks, abrasions, and fading to pigment commensurate with age, with light earthen deposits, and a couple of stable hairline fissures. Great preservation to overall form.
