A very fine Deutsche Rotes Kreuz (German Red Cross) hewer, 15 3/4 in. long overall, black checkered Bakelite grip on the obverse, and a smooth grip on the reverse, these held by the original fixing screws. The finish on the pommel and crossguard are very good to fine, with no scratches or other flaws of any significance. The reverse ricasso of the blade is marked 'Ges. Geschutzt' behind the crossguard extension. The blade is near mint, with no observable scratches or corrosion, and only trace running marks only at the very tip of the blade. The leather buffer washer is also in place and intact. The scabbard is constructed of black-painted steel with an aluminum tip and throat. It is in very good condition, with essentially all of the original paint, scattered scratches, and no dents or dings. The scabbard is also fitted with a black leather frog marked 'W. Fr. BAUER 1941', in excellent condition. A fine example, better than almost all on the market.
