Continental, 19th century. French opaline glass Palais Royal souvenir scent bottles rested within a fitted tortoiseshell scent casket with gilt petal edge inset with tinted print of L'Arc de Triomphe and Notre Dame de Paris. ht. 4.6, wd. 5.5, dp. 3.5 inches.
Fair condition. Cracking throughout tortoiseshell and heavy loss to guilding on lid. Hairline crack through Notre Dame opaline bottle.
From the estate and lifelong collection of William Garrett Hodges (1946-2014). Hodges was a Virginia-based dealer of fine arts, with specialization in prints and rare books, having collected for decades. He supplied and consulted various groups on antiquities throughout his career, including the White House, the Vice President's residence, the FBI, and multiple film and television series.
