Description
Group of 20 antique lead round balls, cast-net sinkers, fishing weights. Previously combined with a group of Civil War minie balls found at various sites in South Carolina, these pieces were presumed to be "wormed" musket balls. Nevertheless, nice historical artifacts for display. These round lead balls have holes that go all the way through. They would've been put on a cord around the edge of radial shrimp nets, the kind you cast by holding the edge in both hands and your mouth, whirling your body through a half circle and suddenly releasing it, to give it some spin so it will spread out. The holes are for the circumferential cord to go through, a design that has been used since the 1700's.
