Description
PAIRING OF MEXICAN TIN RETABLOS
Mexican, 20th century, oil on tin. Two scenic and allegorical pieces, both centered on the Santo Nino de Atocha appearing to those in need. The lower inscriptions roughly translated:
"With infinite devotion to Santo Nino De Atocha, this retablo is dedicated to the miracle of my son, for the life of my son I implore God... (goes on to describe his son misfiring a shotgun while cleaning it and how his life was in danger); Vincent Juarez, 25th April 1956." &
"Jubencio Rocha was accused of a theft he did not commit. His mother, sure of his innocence, implored the Holy Infant of Atocha of Silversmiths to help him to show his innocence, and at the end of five days, they found that which had been lost in the leather-working shop. The owner, feeling sorry, retracted the accusation leaving Jubencio free of all blame before the entire town. zacatecas, Zacatecas, 30th June 1930."
Both roughly 9 3/4 x 7 1/2 in. (24.77 x 19.05 cm.)
