Description
WWI Named & Engraved Purple Heart & Mexican Border Medal 28th Infantry Division Pennsylvania National Guard Group. Named to William I. Merkey. From the information provided, Merkey was born in 1895. He served in the US Army from 1915-1919. Interestingly, as part of Merkeys personal file he went AWOL in 1916. The WWI Victory medals includes the following bars: Champaigne-Marne, Aisne-Marne, Oise-Argonne, Meuse-Argonne, and Defensive Sector. The medals show signs of wear from age and use. Nice 28th Infantry Division Patch and Insignia pin. Pin back ribbon bars that show signs of age and use with some fraying of material along the edges. Overall, nice group of original medals. The display case does not go with this group.
