Born and raised in Memphis, Sanderson attended multiple Elvis Presley concerts at the Overton Park Shell in 1955 and 1956. While frequenting the same places as Elvis in Memphis' burgeoning music scene during his teenage years, Sanderson became a part of young Elvis' enclave, joining touch football games, watching movies, and riding roller coasters.
