Description
Scottish Highland Regiment Basket-Hilted Backsword, ca. 1770, with tapering fullered blade double-edged towards the point and an iron basket-hilt typical of this type, made with flattened sheet-iron plates carrying an alternating arrangement of narrow and near square panels each pierced with stylized hearts and circles, scrolling quillon, conical pommel and wire-bound spirally-carved grip with "Turks Heads" finials. Total length: ca. 38.4 inches (97.5 cm). Condition: Very good with some light pitting. Provenance: From the collection of the Baron and Baroness of Loudoun. This lot includes a certificate of attestation with the wax seal of the Baron of Loudoun.
