Description
Carved wood mask with heavy brow beneath a pair of downward curving horns, with bulging eyes, large nose, protruding mouth set with animal teeth. Originally two additional horns on either side of the mouth; both have broken off, one is present, one is missing. Wood with plaited fiber, animal hair, cane, feathers, tacks, and a metal bell. Offered as is. On custom gallery stand. Approx. 13" H x 9" W x 9" D. Provenance: Estate of Thomas McNemar, (1931-2020.) McNemar lived and collected throughout Central and West Africa in the 1960s and 70s. He established galleries of African Art in New York and San Francisco, selling to museums and public and private collections in the United States and Europe.
