Crimean Medal (1854) Sebastopol, Sterling Silver Campaign Medal Awarded to British Land and Naval Units during the Siege of Sebastopol. The Crimea Medal was a campaign medal approved December 1854, for issue to officers and men of British units (land and naval) which fought in the Crimean War of 1854–56 against Russia. One of the first campaign medals to be awarded while Great Britain was still at war with Queen Victoria presenting the first medal in May, 1855. The medal is 36mm and struck in silver and somewhat uniquely, swivels. Obverse bears the image of Queen Victoria "Victoria Regina, 1854" and the reverse is of a Roman warrior with a shield and short sword. Medal is unassigned. This particular medal was awarded for service during the Siege of Sebastopol (Sevastopol) major port in the Black Sea) September 1854 to September 1855. 1.25 ozt Beautiful piece.
