Rara e interessante mappa del cosmografo e umanista Martin Waldseemueller, una delle prime mappe stampate che nomina l'Armenia e mostra le regioni del Caucaso e della Georgia. Sulla parte destra, sotto il mar Caspio, è indicata la Persia. Questa rara mappa tolemaica apparve nelle edizioni del 1513 e del 1520 della Geographia di Waldseemuller. L'opera di Waldseemuller è stata la prima ad integrare le tradizionali carte tolemaiche con 20 carte "moderne", creando il primo atlante moderno e rappresentando una pietra miliare nella storia della cartografia. Questa carta è della seconda edizione, come dimostra la mancanza della parola “Miliaria” prima del numero 47 sul margine sinistro. Rare and interesting map by cosmographer and humanist Martin Waldseemueller, one of the first printed maps to name Armenia and to focus on the Caucasus and Georgia regions. On the right side, under the Caspian Sea, Persia is indicated. This rare Ptolemaic map appeared in the 1513 and 1520 editions of Waldseemuller's Geographia. Waldseemuller's work was the first to supplement the traditional Ptolemaic maps with 20 "modern" ones, creating the first modern atlas and representing a landmark in the history of cartography. This example is from the second edition, as evidenced by the lack of the word "Miliaria" before the number 47 in the left margin.
