JOHN BELL, WAYNESBORO, PENNSYLVANIA STONEWARE MINIATURE CROCK, salt-glazed, wide mouth, semi-ovoid form with delicate rim. Together with a typed note rolled up inside (now in sleeve) stating "About 1917 or 1918 this was spaded up in the garden at the rear of 30 S. Potomac St. This was on the location of the John Bell Potteries, G. Y. Lickle". John Bell (1800-1880), Waynesboro, PA. Circa 1870. 1 5/8" H, 1 5/8" D rim, 1" D base.
Provenance: From a Northern Virginia estate.
Catalogue Note: George Yonson Lickle (1879-1969), the writer of the accompanying note is recorded living on South Potomac St. in Waynesboro, PA at the time of the 1920 census. The John Bell Pottery operated on South Potomac St. from 1833 until 1900.
