Item Details
Description
Vase from the ROYAL FACTORY OF CAPODIMONTE; Naples, 19th century.
"Women and satyrs".
Enamelled porcelain.
With seal and numbering on the base.
Measurements: 16 cm (height) x 19 cm (largest diameter).
Founded in 1743 under the reign of Charles VII of Naples, the future Charles III of Spain, the Royal Porcelain Factory of Capodimonte was born with the aim of emulating the great factory of Meissen, whose patron had been Augustus the Strong, grandfather of Queen Maria Amalia of Saxony. After the Saxon factory, it was one of the first in Europe to use real porcelain, with kaolin, fired at a temperature varying between 700 and 800º, with a second firing at a higher temperature of between 1,400 and 1,500º. His production was very extensive, although he was particularly noted for his sculptures, both round and in relief, decorating all kinds of objects.
