Description
A REGENCY ROSEWOOD DESKTOP LETTER BOX, ENGLISH, EARLY 19TH CENTURY, of diminutive box form and a top with raised trim enclosing a recessed frame border centering inlaid brass plaques elegantly engraved in cursive "Unanswered" opposite "Answered," enclosing a hinged door with a rectangular brass escutcheon before two letter slots flanking a shaped brass plaque with recessed handle, opening to an interior with a central separating panel within pierced sides of straight line rectangles on a conforming rosewood base and raised on compressed bun feet. Condition
Normal tarnished brass hardware, some expected age shrinkage cracks, surface buildup in crevices, and minor old surface wear. This little letter box is charming in its' simplicity and beautifully crafted. The use of inlaid brass hardware and rosewood with its lovely patina make it all the more desirable and ready for a new home.
