A fascinating, neo-expressionist painting by self-taught abstract figurative artist Damian Gomes, depicting the outline of a bison in cerulean blue paint formed by actually brushing away paint to create the animal's silhouette via Gomes's signature loose, kinetic brushwork. The powerful animal is shown in profile with legs slightly bent, as though laying on its side, and its curved horns and flared nostrils are carefully delineated, while slender, scratch-like strokes define the buffalo's shaggy coat. Artist Biographical Statement: "Damian Gomes is a self-taught abstract figurative painter working primarily in oil and acrylic. Frequently macabre, sensual, and darkly comic human images figure prominently into Gomes' work. The journey from the sublime to the absurd is populated by religious and profane characters, and rendered in an introspective, self-effacing style.
