Description
American Aesthetic Movement fireplace surround from the Hotel Chelsea in New York City, designed by the architectural practice of Hubert, Pirrson & Company, depicting a night and day theme with an applied bronze sun centered on a cast iron surround depicting torches and log fires on either side under a starry night, likely created circa 1883-1885 during the conception and construction of the Hotel Chelsea in Manhattan. A unique piece with a unique history tied to one of New York City's most illustrious residences. 30.5" H x 30.5" W x 2" D. Note: Hubert, Pirrson & Company was a New York City architectural firm founded by Philip Gengembre Hubert and James W. Pirrson. The firm which was active from c.1870 to 1888. It was later known as Hubert, Pirsson and Company, and Hubert, Pirrson & Haddick from 1888-1898.
