Description
(A) Super vibrant neon glass sculpture by artist James Akers, 2020. Fully functional light, comes with electrical transformer and wiring. Plugs into a standard outlet. Can be placed on a table, shelf, or wall mounted. Inspired by travel and the metaphor of the "artist as a tumbleweed", Akers has created these improvisational scribbles of glass tubing since learning to bend neon in 2013. Akers is originally from Maryland, and currently is based in New York City after earning a BFA from Alfred University in upstate New York in 2015. His work is captivated by the notion of "the wild one" and people doing things they are not supposed to. Traveling and exhibiting nationally and internationally since graduation, Akers now resides in Brooklyn, New York. Together with his partner, Ali Feeney, Akers co-runs a neon bending company, Nebula Neon. He continues to educate the public on the art of bending and keeps the Neon industry alive.
