The city boost numerous mansions with the most well-known the Beaumont mansion dating from the 18th century & partially captured here. H.Anthony Dyer (American, 1872-1943). Dyer was a leading New England artist of his generation. Brown Univ. graduate. President of Providence Art Club for many years, founder of Providence Watercolor Club. Dyer traveled to Europe nearly every year & some of his favorite images were the Alpine lakes, medieval European villages and the numerous doorways & archways. "For him the doorways of the Old World open up illimitable vistas of loveliness" (W. Alden Brown).
