Francisco Rodriguez Sanchez-Clement (Spanish, 1893-1968). Oil on canvas, n.d. Signed on lower right. A dazzling painting by Francisco Rodriguez Sanchez-Clement depicting a handsome Spanish gaucho confidently commanding a herd of energetic cattle. This painting demonstrates Sanchez-Clement's keen eye for dramatic composition. The gaucho and his steed are vividly defined front-and-center as the lively herd kicks up dust in the middle ground, rhythmically progressing behind him. Sanchez-Clement has expertly altered values, saturation, and hues to achieve atmospheric perspective, rendering the cattle as well as the distant land and sky in an impressionistic haze that imbues the scene with a convincing sense of depth. A spectacular painting that possesses an almost cinematic quality by Francisco Rodriguez Sanchez-Clement, an artist whose pride in his heritage fueled his artistic passion, set in an attractive custom frame. Size (painting): 20" L x 24" W (50.8 cm x 61 cm) Size (frame): 25.125" L x 28.875" W (63.8 cm x 73.3 cm)
Francisco Rodr?guez Sanchez-Clement graduated from the Academia de Bellas Artes de Madrid. Much of his oeuvre demonstrates the influence of his heritage and the gypsy tradition. Sanchez-Clement crossed Europe with the caravans and sketched the scenes that unfolded before him. Following his return to Spain, he decided to move to Paris. In this art capital of the world Sanchez-Clement pursued his love for figure painting, creating compositions that captured flamenco dancers and the drama of the bullfight. His works were exhibited in the Paris salons as well as other European venues and were also published in the art catalogues of Frost & Reed Limited, London, England.
