An original first quality Meissen porcelain 12 piece Monkey Orchestra figurines set depicting monkeys playing musical instruments sculpted after the models by J.J. Kandler. Each on a gilt edged Rococo style base. Blue crossed swords marks and various incised numbers on the bottom. Meissen porcelain, Germany, 1870 to 1900. Meissen porcelain, also called Dresden porcelain or porcelain de Saxe, German hard-paste, or true, porcelain produced at the Meissen factory, near Dresden in Saxony (now Germany), from 1710 until the present day. It was the first successfully produced true porcelain in Europe and dominated the style of European porcelain manufactured until about 1756, after which the leadership ultimately passed to French Sèvres porcelain.
