Description
A Wooden Bible Box with Civil War History, property of 1st Lt. Joshua S. Garsed (1839-1863), who was killed at Gettysburg on July 3, 1863. He was a member of the 23rd Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry known as Birney's Zouaves. Wooden carved box with fished carved on the side. Marked "E. Furth Engineer" 6-1/4in tall x 15-3/4in wide x 9-1/4in deep. Together with a US Army bayonet from the Spanish-American War from the same family, stamped US 1896. Knife: 16-1/2in long x 3-1/2in wide, sheath: 18-1/4in long x 3-1/2in wide.
