Description
Half Aksu Woman's Overskirt, Department of Oruro, Early 19th C. Natural dyes, alpaca. A very fine and rare example of the dominant or lower half of a woman’s wedding dress from an outlying part of the Bolivar weaving district. Note the dense design bands with ancient symbols seen in Northern Potosi and Eastern Oruro departments while adhering to the Bolivar region’s wedding palette of colorful stripes below the designs. Size: 2'6'' x 3'7'' (76 x 109 cm).
