An Arussi or Oromo Shield Ethiopia, c. 1950 Made of stretched cow hide. Embossed with raised ribs and alternating oval bosses radiating from a central vertical spine, fine tooled surface. Pierced through for attachment of leather grip on verso, old indigenous repairs. A varied black patina overall. In very good condition. Provenance: A Private Collection, New York, NY Purchased from Sotheby's New York, Tribal Art, November 22, 1988, lot 382 A Private Portuguese Collection Diameter: 28 inches
