Description
Three Papua New Guinea food hooks. Carved wooden figural hooks with incised and painted decoration. Smaller from the Iatmul people in Korogo Village, Mid Sepik River Region, medium from Sangrimin Village, Karawari River, East Sepik Province, largest from Kandangai Village, Sepik River, East Sepik Province. Used to suspend food, clothing and ceremonial items. Each with some wear to finish and damage to wood. 25" to 32" high. ESTIMATE $300-400 PROVENANCE: From the Solomon collection in Wolverine Lake, Michigan. Purchased in respective PNG locations in 1979-1980.
