Description
Taino Pre-Columbian Extremely Rare Jade Anthropic Pendant. Knees up in sitting position. Gaping mouth and bulging eyes suggest the subject is in psycho-active trance. The tense concentration with head tilted skyward may indicate ecstatic communication with the gods. Residual arms are carved on back. Jade naturally occurs in the Upper Rio San Juan area of the Dominican Republic. Estate of Roy Craven, former professor of Art History and Mesoamerican Studies at U of Fl. To Larry Roberts. Size: 2.5'' x 1'' x 0.75'' (6 x 3 x 2 cm).
