Description
Chavin Pre-Columbian Fabulous Lapis Lazuli Zoomorph, possibly a monkey. Still retains both shell eye inlays. These rare and highly desirable effigies represent the epitome of precious stone carvings done by the Chavin (c. 900-200 BC ). The lapis was traded for, as the closest source is found in Chile. Purchased 1982 in Naples FL at Hogan Gallery; Ex Bruce Green collection to Roberts Collection. Bruce Greene traveled and excavated extensively in Peru in the 1960s. Size: 1.75'' x 2.5'' x 1'' (4 x 6 x 3 cm).
