Marilyn didn't want the earrings after her divorce from Arthur Miller because it was one of the first gifts he gave her." Marilyn Monroe married Arthur Miller on June 29, 1956, and would divorce less than five years later. Marilyn filed for divorce on January 20, 1961, a date she chose in hopes that John F. Kennedy's inauguration would distract media attention. Sydney Guilaroff was a hair stylist during Hollywood's Golden Age who was the first to receive on-screen credit in films. He worked for more than forty years at the Metro Goldwyn Mayer studios on more than a thousand films, and was instrumental in crafting many of the hairstyles which became the signature looks for numerous film stars. Guilaroff was a friend, stylist, and confidante to many Golden Age stars including Greta Garbo, Joan Crawford, and Audrey Hepburn along with Marilyn Monroe, and styled Marilyn's hair for her funeral in 1962. According to our seller, this item was acquired in person from Guilaroff years ago by an avid collector who has since passed and whose mother is now liquidating the collection.
