Description
Chain and Ring. Early to mid 19th century Continental, most surely French, 18kt yellow gold hinged vinaigrette with enamel floral decoration against a black ground. Opens to reveal an interior grill with rinceau decoration. Vinaigrette is attached to a multi-color enamel decorated chain suspended from a ring. Ring displays blue, black and gilt enameled plumes flanking a central oval form pendant depicting an enamel decorated crossed torch and quiver of arrows. This central hinged panel opens to reveal that it is possibly a poison ring. Apparently unmarked. Total approx. weight is 16.2 dwt (gross). Ring size - 8 1/2. From a Hollis, NY estate. Dimensions: vinaigrette measures approx. 1.25" w x 0.86" d x 0.38" h.
Condition
Good, with light surface scratches and minor dings/dents. Enamel losses. Interior inscription of, "Dec 9th 1834".
