Description
USA, 1968
steel, wood, light bulbs
11" x 11" x 4"

Twenty-Fifth Time by Howard Jones. Programmed light sculpture displaying a theoretical time sequence of flashing lights.

Howard Jones, active during early experimentation with motion, sound and light mediums, was a participant in Light: Object and Image at the Whitney Museum of American Art, 1968. Jones created work intended to "expand the viewer's perception of the technologically altered conditions of the self" (Meredith Malone, Associate Curator, Mildred Lane Kemper Art Museum). Jones was referred to as "an ardent McLuhanite" by the critic Robert Pincus-Witten due to the influence "the medium is the message" had on the artist.
