Description
Boricua woman reclining on one elbow, oil on mahogany board, signed lower right. Condition: minor losses & minor flaking around cream border. Housed in original artist's frame. Angel Botello was born in Galica, Spain, and spent the majority of his youth in Bordeaux, France, where he studied painting at the School of Fine Arts. When he returned to Spain as a young man, Botello continued his studies in art and later moved to the Dominican Republic with his family. The Dominican art community warmly received the artist and he was in turn very much influenced by island culture. Angel Botello said that the light and bright colors of the tropics opened a new world for him and stimulated his creativity. It was this bright spirit of the islands that captured the artist until his death. Botello spent the last decades of his life in Puerto Rico, always producing. He left behind a legacy of oil paintings, linocuts, lithographs, silk screens and sculptures. Overall Size: 32 3/4 x 44 3/4 in. Sight Size: 24 x 35 1/2 in.
