Early example of the evolutionary form with cusped top, formed from the scrolling sides forming crescents above a trefoil. The cusped top heart is indicative of a transition from the naturalistic form which was used widely as well. Made by the open face mold technique and just over 7/8" total height. The heart stood for bravery, fortitude, loyalty, and integrity, all attributes of the Viking warrior. It is abundantly referenced in Viking literature. Surface worn from use (1000 years ago!) and burial. Professionally refurbished with the silver surface restored, on a Sterling silver neck chain.
