Runaway Slave in 1826, Constable Offers $1 Reward
Autograph Document Signed, “Asher Reading Constable”, 1p, 8” x 3.25”, March 2, 1826. The document has minor creasing, browning, and light soiling, else is in near fine condition.
In full, with original spelling unchanged, “One Dollar Reward Maid his Escape from the Subscriber on the knight of the first of March 1826 a man by the Name of John Warford taken in By Asher Reading Constable By virtu of an Execution Issued by Thomas Little Esquire in favour of Hugh Maga against Said Warford Any Persen that will take up said Runaway and Lodg him in Flemington Gaol Shall Be intitled to the above Reward.”
