A RARE MANUSCRIPT HAND WRITTEN RUSSIAN BOOK "Nikodima Starodubskii"
(The Work of Monk Nikodim being his answer to Platons), "Exhortations of the Orthodox Eastern Church of Christ to her former children, now on the Road to Schism"
19th century. PLATON (Peter) LEVCHIN (1737-1812) was Metropolitan of Moscow 1787-1812. In the offered lot, the author discusses the "Raskolnik's" and their treatment. Of particular interest are the 60 illuminated illustrations (watercolor) depicting the various two-finger blessings, taken from old icons.
The two finger method of blessing was the type retained and favored by the Old Believers (Raskolniks).
The end of the work includes a summary of the meeting of the Raskolniki in Rogozhskoe Cemetery where they discussed the issue of re-baptism.
A total of 618 pages (309 sheets) bound in embossed leather covers and measuring 14 inches x 8.75 inches (36 cm x 22.2 cm).
