A notable pair of photographs of American aviator, military officer, author, inventor, and activist Charles Lindbergh (1902-1974) produced and distributed by the American company Underwood and Underwood. In the first, Lindbergh is shown standing in front of the "Spirit of Saint Louis" - a single-engine Ryan monoplane in which he flew from New York to Paris - completing the first solo, non-stop, transatlantic flight between two major city hubs - the longest flight to that date and one of the most consequential flights in aviation history. Lindbergh is shown leaning out of the window of the plane in the second photograph. Underwood copyright logo in lower right corner of both. Minor loss to lower left corner of photograph of Lindbergh in plane and slight tearing to lower left side of other photograph. Both have a few light scratches only visible under raking light and very slight folds to left side. Small stained area on Lindbergh's legs in one. Both fit with mattes. Otherwise, both are very vivid.
