An engraving black and white panel depiction of the "Rape of the Sabines" in the 16th century style. Now with shrinkage into strips and with losses to the image. Framed by an important inset and Lapis Lazuli stone ebony wood late 19th century Northern Italian frame. The frame has inner layers with cutwork and beadwork. Engraving 12.5" x 18". Frame 26" x 31.5".This is one of the items showcased from the estate of Michael L. Wilkie 1941-2021, Chicago Illinois. Michael L. Wilkie was the owner of one of the most prominent residences nationwide, recently offered for sale for the first time in the last 50 years. Wilkie's residence encompasses the entire top floor and roof terrace of 1500 Lake Shore Drive and was built by the famed architect Rosario Candela. Michael L. Wilke played a crucial role for 60 years in the internationally known "DoAll" company, which is the parent company of over 70 companies worldwide. Michael's father Leighton A. Wilkie was the founder of DoAll prominently known for originating the metal-cutting band saw.
