World War I era Gieve & Sons (English 1771) British Royal Navy black bicorn felt hat with gold bouillon trim, in a shaped Japanned tin case with plaque reading "CE. Aglionby RN", maker to the interior of the hat with remnants of paper label to case. Note: Lieutenant Commander Charles Edward Aglionby (British 1882-1966) was descendant of Edward III and served in the Royal Navy from 1895 until 1919. He was later with the Ministry of Agriculture in Northern Wales as a fishery officer. Provenance: From the Private Collection of Vernon Harris, Cumming, Georgia. Approx. the hat, size 6.75, h. 6.5", w. 16.5", d. 6.5" (inner w. 7.5", d. 5.5"); the case h. 8.75", w. 19", d. 8.5".
Condition
Bouillon has darkened, no apparent holes to felt, oxidation and wear to case, paper label is loose.
