the book plate of Frederic B. Wiggins the is on the verso of the front endpaper and his blind stamp on the page# 8.

Hard boards, original red cloth with gilt titles on spine [a little wear]; 5.1/2" x 8.1/2" front and back endpapers illustrated with pictures of the Jacksons as younger couple on the front and as they are older, on the back; 320 pages including Acknowledgments of the sources, red upper edge of the pages, one page corner fold, very good condition.

The story of Anna and Thomas Jackson in their early years, before the Civil War, and as he became known as the Confederacy's greatest tactician, and finally Anna on her own after Thomas's tragic death. Letters, documents, and records were researched to write this novel.

It follows Anna's life (Mrs. Jackson)from her first encounter with Tom (Stonewall) thru their courtship, marriage and hardships of the Civil War." [a private review]

Harnett Thomas Kane (1910-1984) was an author of some thirty books of Louisiana and America South in the fields of history, geography, culture, and fiction. Stricken with Alzheimer's disease in his middle fifties, he was unable to write for the last seventeen years of his life. A Kane admirer terms him one of the authors of Louisiana topics, who "knew his state well and chronicled the landscape, the people, and the culture better than any [other] ... he is unsurpassed for description, concrete detail, and for conveying the voices of [the] people ..."]
