Description
TAKAHASHI HIROAKI (SHOTEI) (JAPANESE, 1871-1945) WOODBLOCK PRINT, "Sudden Rain (Shuu)", depicting a dark night scene with rain featuring figures and a single street lamp in the foreground, background with a bridge, additional figures, and buildings, red artist's seal in lower right corner. Housed under glass in a gilt frame. Back of frame with a hand-written note that reads "Hilda George of Rockport (?), Maine (her father was a banker) gave this to Margaret Bruce on Christmas 1923. She had bought it in Japan on her round the world trip with University student group." Circa 1923. 6 3/4" x 14 7/8" object, 9 5/8" x 18 3/4" OA.
Condition
Very good visual condition with some toning, possibly laid on silk, frame with some wear, flakes and chips to gilt. Not examined out of frame.
