ENGLISH CERAMIC TILES, LOT OF 16, including four Shakespearean examples including Romeo and Juliet, King Lear, and The Tempest with cream ground, four examples depicting various scenes from Tennyson's The Idylls of the King poem including "ENID", "PELLEAS", "GERAINT", and LYNETTE", signed "J. MOYR SMITH" to front, three examples featuring figures performing trades including a tailor, a blacksmith, and a cooper, and three biblical theme examples including "THE WISE MEN FROM THE EAST", "CHRIST WALKING ON THE SEA", and "GOING UP TO JERUSALEM". Marks to back include "FLOREAT / MAW / SALOPIA" and "MINTONS / CHINA WORKS / STOKE ON TRENT". Mintons, Stoke-on-Trent; Benthall Works England; and others. Fourth quarter 19th/early 20th century. 6" x 6".
