Description
Japanese bamboo chashaku (tea scoop used for powdered tea during tea ceremony) of simple elegant shape with gold on black lacquer decoration of delicate rice plants with grains and leaves. Superb quality wajima-nuri work - a type of Japanese lacquerware from Wajima, Ishikawa, its main distinguishing feature being the durable undercoating of multiple layers of urushi mixed with powdered diatomaceous earth (ji-no-ko). Comes with wrapping cloth in original box with cord for securing the lid, must be about 30 years old, in perfect condition. Inscribed on the top of the box WAJIMA NURI CHASHAKU and signed SEIZAN followed by the red seal of the lacquerer. Excellent object in Japanese taste. Chashaku length 7 1/4 inches, box length 8 7/16 inches.
