KPM PORCELAIN: A LARGE LATE 19TH CENTURY BERLIN PLAQUE OF CHRIST IN THE TEMPLE
AFTER HEINRICH HOFMANN (GERMAN, 1824-1911)
depicting Christ as a boy in white robes, pointing to an open book and surrounded by the Elders, the reverse with impressed sceptre over K.P.M mark and H marks, impressed numerals 15. 12, with old paper labels numbered '376' and 'Christui ** Tempel Hoffmann', mounted in a gilt frame with pierced acanthus leaves,
the panel 40cm x 33cm, the frame 57cm x 48cm
Provenance: From a private London collection, it has remained in the same family for three generations.
Good condition.
This scene is also known as 'Christ among the Doctors' or 'The Disputation'. Heinrich Hofmann' s (1824-1911) Christ in the Temple was painted in 1871 and is in the Riverside Church in New York.
