Description
1873 Charles Darwin Descent of Man Evolution Natural History Monkeys Science 2v
“…it is those who know little, not those who know much, who so positively assert that this or that problem will never be solved by science.”
― Charles Darwin, The Descent of Man
A very rare edition of Charles Darwins Descent of Man. This is the work in which Darwins theories of evolution by means of natural selection were realized. Before this book, Darwin applied his thoughts to animals and plants but had not yet decided they also could be realized in Homo sapiens. In fact, the world evolution had not appeared in any Darwinian work prior to Descent of Man. Many of Darwins theories that were prevalent in Descent have been misconstrued and misinterpreted – most notably that humans descended from apes. Darwin never said humans came from apes or monkeys. Darwins said that “human ancestors, if alive today, would have to be classified among the Primates.” (De Beer).
