Description
This is a stock certificate for the St. Paul and Duluth Railroad, dated July 5, 1878, for 55 shares of preferred capital stock. The stock was purchased by Charles B. Wright, the president of the Northern Pacific Railroad from 1875-1879, which the St. Paul and Duluth would later become part of. Cox number STP-273 S-70. A history of Mr. Wright and this certificate is included with it. The certificates from this consignor originally came from the famous “NP Hoard” which was donated to the Minnesota Historical Society, and then acquired by Scott Winslow and George LaBarre before being dispersed to railroad collectors nationwide. This is your opportunity to own some rare and valuable pieces of American railroad history from railroads in which there are few artifacts available, and even less that come up for sale. There are several varieties of these STP&D RR certificates for sale in this sale, so now is your once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to own a set of different varieties, printed in black or green. Each of these certificates has three beautiful vignettes, two of Great Lakes steamships, and one of a STP&D steam train at a station.
