Description
The lot features two original circa early 1900 Southern Plains German Silver Peyote Religion Church / Chapel scarf slides. These are very early examples with a nice large size exhibiting stamped German silver / nickel silver with carved repousse ends, rocker engraving and punched spots showing peyote waterbird and cross figures in rocker engraving. These pieces comes from the Sundog Bruce VanLandingham collection where they were found to be authentic. Provenance: From the renowned Sundog Fine Art Bozeman, Montana collection by Bruce VanLandingham. Bruce VanLandingham was a pillar in the American Indian collecting community and a respected expert. Along with being an avid collector, Bruce was also the sole owner of Sundog Fine Art Gallery in Bozeman, which was both part museum and gallery, this piece is directly from the collection. Each measures as follows 3 1/8” by 1.75” and 2 7/8” by 1 5/8”.
