Native American, Southwestern United States, New Mexico, Anasazi (Ancestral Puebloan), ca. 1100 to 1275 CE. A miniature pottery mug skillfully hand-painted with a classic black-on-white decoration in the Reserve style. The body is a globular shape with a rounded but stable base, a short neck, and strap handle. The ashy white surface is painted with registers of linear black motifs oriented diagonally. Formed via the traditional Puebloan coil-and-scrape technique, the Reserve black-on-white is from the southern border of the Anasazi and the northern border of the Mogollon, representing a connection between the 2 cultures.
