March 24th 1900 "Tunnel Day" Photo in New York City
March 24th 1900-Dated, Photograph, "Tunnel Day" for the New York Subway System, 6.5" x 5.5" overall with Mount, Fine.
A historic "Tunnel Day" Photograph is on its original card mount. There are two minor creases in the upper left, with some expected wear to mount edges on this very rare New York City subway system image. The back of mount has a pencil inscription reading: "Taken by - George... City Hall - Decorated on Sat " March 24th 1900 - Tunnel Day." This Photo is 4" x 5" and measuring to 6.5" x 5.5" with its card mount. This is the tunnel that would become the subway system. It started at New York City Hall on March 24, 1900. Mayor Van Wyck broke ground using a silver spade, the City Hall was magnificently decorated with patriotic American flags and banners.
